In her seventh year as an agriculture teacher, Elisa lives with her family in Cedar Falls, Iowa where she also spends her time as an FFA advisor. Inspired by her parents who were both teachers, and her sister also in the profession, Elisa wanted to make the same positive impact that she experienced as a student involved in various agriculture-related programs.
An active member of 4-H, Iowa FFA, and the Iowa Association of Agricultural Educators, Elisa’s next step in furthering her career was obtaining her master’s degree in agricultural education. With a flexible, fully online format, Elisa could continue to teach and mentor her students as a teacher at Dike-New Hartford while also pursuing leadership opportunities that will allow her to further impact the future of ag education in Iowa.
“As a full-time working mom, it was a difficult decision to start grad school and split my time. Receiving the Parsons Family Scholarship helps ease the financial worries and has allowed me to focus on my studies and get one step closer to my goal of completing my graduate degree.” says Elisa Russ-Poggemiller, a graduate student in the online agricultural education master’s program at Iowa State University
By investing in her education, Elisa is sowing the seeds for a stronger, more inspired future in agricultural learning and leadership and inspiring her students to do the same.
