Special Education – Graduate Certificate
Iowa State’s School of Education offers the courses needed to earn Iowa’s Instructional Strategist II: Behavior Disorders/Learning Disabilities, ages 5-21. If you are interested in earning a special education teaching endorsement in 18 months while working full time, this is a great program to consider.
All of the courses required for the Strategist II: Behavior Disorders/Learning Disabilities endorsement use a hybrid model that combines distance education components with a limited number of on-campus sessions (usually a few Saturdays per semester). Distance courses in special education make use of Canvas and video-streaming technology to maximize real-time interactions with the instructor and fellow students.
The 18-month program gives you the ability to earn the certificate with cohort-style learning designed to fit in to your busy life! All credits earned in this licensure program also count toward a master of science in education or a master of education degree with a focus on special education.

Special Education Graduate Certificate Details

- The program is designed for people who have a general education teaching certificate and want to add a special education endorsement at the graduate level. This program is also a good fit for special education teachers who already have a strat one certification but want to teach students who require higher levels of support for academics or behavior.
We also offer a 12-credit certificate for people who want to gain information about special education. This program length is variable and the program’s start date is rolling.
